In this class you will learn the basics of pattern design and manipulation. We will start with the basic sloper blocks and grade them - bodice, skirt and sleeve. From there we will address fit issues and create a perfect sloper fit for you or the dress form. Then you’ll learn pattern manipulation techniques to make clothing in the shape and styles you want to. By the end of this class you will have the confidence to start creating patterns on your own.
This class will cover the following
First we will trace the sloper set and fit it to the body, After the sloper set is complete we will pattern draft 1-2 new styles each week and sew them up in muslin and fit them to you or the dress form. We will cover tops, skirts and sleeves. By the end of class you will have patterns and muslins of styles that you have designed! 🥳
10 yards of muslin
4 invisible zippers that are 24’’ or longer
Duration - 6 weeks
Time - 6-9pm
Note for the session starting April 18th: There won't be class on Thu May 23rd because I'm going to see Neil Young that night! We'll finish the following week on Thu May 30th.
After this 6 week series you can go straight to dressmaking. Or to further your understanding and skills in pattern creation, you can take pattern drafting , draping, or stretchy clothing design.
Our classes are limited in size (and frequently sell out!). Each person has a station with a sewing machine reserved for them, so no refunds are offered on classes. If you miss a class, video tutorials will be provided that you can work through in your own time. If you know you'll be missing a class in advance, contact us and we'll see if there's a seat available in a nearby session you could attend.
