In this class, you’ll learn the advanced sewing techniques listed below, building on what you learned in Sewing 101.
We will make 3 advanced garments in this class.
A pair of shorts with fly zipper, welt pockets, waistband, etc
A skirt with darts, waitsband, stylelines, laped zipper, etc
A shirt/blouse with bias facing, Double welt button holes, gathering, etc
We will meet once a week on Sunday afternoon
Time - 3-6pm for 6 weeks
Techniques covered:
We will start with cutting out the PDF sewing patterns and measuring them for your size. Then we will go over cutting, grain lines and prepping the fabric to start cutting and sewing. We will then go over the following techniques within the 3 project's.
Bias facing
Easing
Sewing curved shapes
Sewing inset V points & corners/points
Separating Zipper
Lapped Fly front zipper
lapped zipper
Box pleats
Stitch in the ditch
Double welt pocket
Single welt pocket
Use batting and a walking foot to make a quilt square
Smocking with elastic a.k.a ruching
Use a twin needle for stitching

Working with unique fabrics
You’ll make a sample for each new technique to add to your sewing binder with notes on how you made it. You’ll also use each technique on one of the 3 projects, so when you’re finished with class you’ll have both references to look back at. Plus you get to wear your awesome sewing projects!
If you haven’t taken 101, you can still take sewing 102, but you need to be able to confidently operate a sewing machine and create basic seams to attend.
