Learn to create new clothes out of old ones! Upcycling, or thrift flipping, is the art of reworking a garment into a new look or style. Learn to upcycle with Anastasia as she walks you through her favorite upcycle projects. She'll teach you how to create them step by step on your own garments and be there to help you as you learn hands-on sewing the projects yourself in class.

She's designed this class to make one of her favorite hobbies fun and approachable for you. Let your creativity shine as you learn to transform your wardrobe!

6 weeks, 6 incredible projects:

  1. Create a puff shirt out of a button up shirt
  2. Make a top or sweater into a dress by adding fabric
  3. Transform a blazer into a skirt
  4. Tailor an oversized jacket into dress
  5. Expand pant legs into flare or wide legs
  6. Mixing sweatshirts or t shirts

Bring in garments to practice on that are not your favorite pieces. We want you to feel comfortable cutting into pieces for learning.

We provide all the tools, machines, and cutting space you'll need, and Anastasia will be there to help and guide you every step of the way. Just bring in the garments you want to alter and any additional fabric, trim, and matching threads you want to use on them. If you need garments to practice on, go to a thrift store and pick some up (so cheap!) You will be emailed a supply list of everything you need to bring into class.

Prerequisite: Sewing 101 or equivalent skills plus our Alterations course or equivalent skills

NOTE  This class is not the same as our tailoring alterations course.

Class will meet for 6 weeks at 2041 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL

Our classes are limited in size (and frequently sell out!). Each person has a station with a sewing machine reserved for them, so no refunds are offered on classes. If you miss a class, video tutorials will be provided that you can work through in your own time. If you know you'll be missing a class in advance, contact us and we'll see if there's a seat available in a nearby session you could attend.
